Taiwan's industrial production index in August this year fell 0.7 percent as compared to August 2012, and was down 2.05 percent month on month, according to the country's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). However, the country's seasonally adjusted industrial production index in August decreased 0.3 percent compared to the same month of 2012.
In the first eight months of the year, Taiwan's seasonally adjusted industrial production index increased 0.5 percent compared to the first eight months of the previous year.
In August this year, industrial output in the country's basic metal manufacturing increased by 12.1 percent and output of metal product manufacturing increased by 1.3 percent, both compared with August 2012. In addition, the two sectors saw 2.3 percent and 1.75 percent increases respectively on month-on-month basis. In the first eight months of 2013, a 3.3 percent year-on-year increase was recorded in Taiwan's basic metal manufacturing output, while the fabricated metal production index fell 0.2 percent compared to January-August 2012.
Meanwhile, in August this year production in Taiwan's machinery and equipment industry fell by 9.5 percent, output in the automotive industry decreased by 4.2 percent, while production in the Taiwanese construction sector decreased by 15.1 percent, all compared to the same month of 2012.
