Bloomberg reported that Anglo American Plc,the mining company with operations from Africa to Chile, will resume working on a power line at its Minas Rio iron ore project in Brazil after an injunction on the line's license was lifted.
Anglo said that Brazil's environmental authority known as Ibama approved the resumption of work at the 90 kilometer power transmission line. The approval follows an agreement the company reached last month with a Minas Gerais prosecutor to restore the license for the line.
Mining companies in Brazil, the world's second largest iron ore exporter, are facing environmental permit delays and labor shortages.Anglo, which has had budget, overruns and postponements since buying Minas Rio in 2008,received three injunctions this year, including an order in April to suspend work at the line installation.
It said that Anglo has secured the removal of the third and final major injunction that has affected the construction.Work will begin immediately.
The Minas Rio iron ore project, which includes a mine, processing plant and 525 kilometer pipeline to the Acu port in Rio de Janeiro state, will have an initial capacity of 26.5 million metric tonne a year.London based Anglo expects to make the first shipment in the second half of 2014.
