Pakistan will support women businessmen in the garment sector in Bangladesh to upgrade their entrepreneurial skills, according to media reports in the two countries.
Pakistani high commissioner Shuja Alam and acting managing director of Bangladesh’s Micro Indisutries Development Assistance and Services (MIDAS) Mashi-ur-Rahman signed the agreement on behalf their respective organisations.
Under the contract, the Pakistani mission will provide funds for a three-week training course on enterprise and skill development for 60 small and mid-level women entrepreneurs in the garment sector, an official Bangladeshi statement said.
The participants of the training programme will be provided a proper marketing platform to sell their products as part of the course. MIDAS will also organise SME trade fairs in Dhaka and other districts in the country.
On completion of the project, a workshop involving participation of women entrepreneurs, business associations and financial institutions working for the uplift of women-run SMEs will be jointly organised by MIDAS and the High Commission.
Speaking at the function, High Commissioner Alam said integrating women SMEs in the mainstream economy remains a major concern among developing countries as due to resource constraints and lack of technical education, women in the SME sector find it difficult to use their skills in a more productive way.
