Sealed Air and Ecovative Design Have Completed an Agreement to Boost The Production

US-based Sealed Air and Ecovative Design have completed an agreement to boost the production, sales and distribution of Ecovative's EcoCradle mushroom packaging, a technology for green packaging materials made from agricultural byproducts and mycelium or mushroom roots.

As part of the agreement, Sealed Air will be the sole licensee of Ecovative's mycelium based material technology in North America for protective packaging applications. Both the firms have been developing plans for sales and marketing, increasing production capabilities, since January 2012.

Sealed Air Protective Packaging business president Ryan Flanagan said the Ecovative Design team has developed a fundamental material technology, using the characteristics of mycelium to offer solutions to protective packaging.

"The agreement also furthers our SmartLife commitment to sustainability and providing solutions that reduce waste throughout the supply chain," Flanagan added.

Sealed Air's Protective Packaging business offers an extensive portfolio of protective, industrial and display packaging equipment to meet diverse application requirements across a broad range of industries. Sealed Air operates Packaging Design Centers globally and delivers solutions that benefit multiple areas of customer operations. Its brands include Bubble Wrap, Cryovac, Instapak, Shanklin.

Ecovative, a materials science company, said its products serve as green alternatives to traditional foam packaging, insulation and other plastic-based materials.
