The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production rose 1.2 percent in the week ending July 20, following a 0.3 percent increase the previous week and a 3 percent increase the week prior.
Total raw steel production in the United States was 1,904,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 1.2 percent jump over the 1,881,000 nt produced in the previous week and a 4.4 percent surge from the 1,823,000 nt produced during the same week a year ago.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 79.5 percent in the week ending July 20, compared to 78.5 percent in the previous week and 73.3 percent in the same week of last year.
