The spot price of polysilicon continues to fall due to weak demand throughout the supply chain. Industry sources indicated the price has dropped below US$30/kg and is moving toward US$25/kg. Despite the price drop of polysilicon, industry sources indicated downstream solar firms only have limited demand of materials because end market demand continues to be gloomy. Solar wafer firms have been reporting losses recently causing firms to be more selective in making procurement orders. Demand for polysilicon has been lowering and firms have been trying to sell the stocked polysilicon in the spot market. Industry sources indicated some Asia-based polysilicon firms have been quoting contract prices around US$25-30/kg and noted if demand volume is large enough, the price can be more flexible. Asia-based polysilicon suppliers have been more attentive to demand making them more competitive than Europe- and US-based peers, according to industry sources. Source: www.digitimes.com
