Kickstarter.com Launches Sustainably Made Wool Caps

A recently launched project at Kickstarter.com gives new meaning to the question"who are you wearing?"The N.E.Surf Beanie project gives credit where it's due and takes the concept of handmade, local and sustainable products to a new level by putting a name and face to the material used in their products.

Their line of fashionable caps isn't the work of a famous clothing designer;instead, there is Sally Mae,a black-faced Border Leicester sheep who lives in Vermont. Her wool, mixed with fiber from her"friends,"is left naturally colored, without the use of acid, dye or bleach, then knitted on hand looms-to create soft, rugged, incredibly warm,100%made in New England beanies. Each cozy cap has a little bit of Sally Mae's wool.

About the N.E Surf Beanie Project&Kickstarter.com:The N.E.Surf Beanie project is spearheaded by Mike Marks,a Cape Cod entrepreneur and surfer, with help from fellow Cape surfers Shawn Vecchione,Olaf Valli and Asa Nadeau.Mike was seeking a way to work with the local community and keep warm on those cold days before and after surfing.

He made the decision to launch the beanies on Kickstarter to share their story in depth.Beyond offering"fantastic"products at a good value,Mike explains his project's purpose is"to help local employment,do something good for the environment and help the small farms that are an integral part of the New England landscape. When someone buys one of our beanies they get a great product and,in a small way, help keep New England looking like New England."

The N.E.Surf Beanie project runs on Kickstarter.com through December 16th.
