MeadWestvaco (MWV), a global packaging and packaging technology firm, has unveiled its smaller, more discreet medication adherence package, known as Shellpak Renew with Optilock technology.
Designed to fulfill patient and pharmacist requirement, the new adherence package provides better patient portability while enhancing pharmacy efficiency.
Features include an advanced locking mechanism for the highest level of child resistance (F=1) in a significantly reduced package size and it is 23% smaller than the original Shellpak Renew. Despite its reduced size, it can accommodate the same amount of medications.
It has been planned for launch at Walmart pharmacies in the summer of 2013 with medications from Mylan, while additional medications will follow later this year through MWV.
The adherence package is equipped with a calendared blister and space for patient educational information, which is depicted to improve patient adherence to medications, while making dispensing medications faster and easier for pharmacists.
The reduced package size offers a more convenient way for patients to access and carry their medications, according to the company.
Consistent with the MWV Shellpak platform, Shellpak Renew with Optilock technology can be used for multiple medications/SKUs without re-testing for child resistance.
