Fortuner Assembly Is Started by Toyota in Egypt

Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor (TMC) together with Arab American Vehicle (AAV), an assembly subcontractor, has started assembling of the Fortuner SUVs at AAV's plant in Egypt.

The Japanese automaker aims to build about 3,000 Fortuner's per year at AAV's plant, with TMEE (Toyota Motor Engineering Egypt) managing several aspects of the operation, which include vehicle quality control, supply and demand management, and logistics management.

Toyota Tsusho president Jun Karube said it is not too much to say that this Fortuner project could not be realized without each supplier's tremendous effort.

TMC senior managing officer Hisayuki Inoue said the company is committed to doing whatever it can to contribute to Egypt's economy and the country's enduring automotive industry.

The company started selling imported vehicles in Egypt through Toyota Egypt in 1979 and had sold about 10,000 vehicles in the country last year.
