The FIAT Chrysler Group Is Recalling 333 Jeep SUVs in Australia for Transfer Tube

The Fiat Chrysler Group is recalling 333 Jeep SUVs in Australia for a defective fuel tank transfer tube that could result in vehicles stalling.

According to the official recall notice on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) product safety recalls website, the defective fuel tank transfer tube on 206 Jeep Compass models and 127 Jeep Patriots built between Oct 18, 2011 and May 7, 2012 can restrict fuel flow risking the possibility of engines spontaneously stalling.

The recall notice explains, “If the vehicle stalls unexpectedly this can pose a safety hazard to the driver and other road users.”

Fiat Chrysler Group’s director of corporate affairs, Karla Leach, told CarAdvice that customers of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail, with those vehicles requiring repairs to have a new fuel tank transfer tube fitted at no cost, taking approximately one hour to complete.

Chrysler is keen to stress that this latest recall is “totally unrelated” to the recent recall request of 2.7 million Jeep Grand Cherokees and Jeep Libertys from America’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which the US manufacturer says it does not intend to honour.
