Energy Prices Are Continuing to Rise for People up and Down The Country

Energy prices are continuing to rise for people up and down the country, meaning that households need to find new ways of trying to reduce the amount they spend each month.

With the economic outlook looking increasingly difficult, people will be keen to find ways to save money.

Indeed, the Office for National Statistics said that the UK economy shrank by 0.3 per cent in the last three months of 2012.

This has further fuelled fears that the economy could enter a triple dip recession, which is sure to tighten purse strings all over the country.

Senior campaigns and communications officer at National Energy Action Sarah Wright said it is vital that people do all they can to keep warm in their homes this winter.

"Improving the energy-efficiency of your property is one of the best ways of reducing heating costs. Relatively low-cost measures, such as cavity wall and loft insulation, can help save hundreds of pounds on your energy bill," she continued.

There are many ways to reduce the energy that you use in the home, for instance installing energy-efficient ceiling light fittings will mean you could save plenty of money.

This is because LED lighting uses over 50 per cent less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs, as well as lasting much longer, meaning that they don't need to be replaced anywhere near as often.

Ms Wright said there are also things that can be done to save energy, such as installing cavity wall and loft insulation, which should help to keep the home room without using too much heat.

"Make sure that you dress in thick clothes and have plenty of warm drinks and hot meals to ensure you stay warm and healthy," she continued.

She also advised people to look at switching supplier as that could potentially save pound 200 to pound 300 on your annual energy bill.
