Coats Group, the world’s leading industrial thread and consumer textile crafts business, is launching a fusible thread which helps secure buttons and also other decorative applications such as sequins and beads. Named Secura, the new thread has enhanced fixing security which is of particular benefit for buttons used in children’s wear, Coats said in a press release. Secura is a polyester/polyester corespun thread which resists abrasion and ensures excellent sewability.
The bonding properties of Secura are heat activated, by steam or iron, which forms a durable bond between the stitches. This helps increase security by preventing the stitch from unravelling and also provides a cleaner finished appearance to the final garment than standard sewing threads as loose ends can be sealed using the same method.
“Secura has been developed in response to feedback from our customers looking for ways to reduce returns of garments due to buttons, beads or sequins coming loose. Using Secura helps increase their confidence that buttons and decorative attachments will remain in place, as well as improving the appearance of the final garment,” explained Rajiv Sharma, CEO, Industrial, Coats Group. Secura shrinks less than 1 per cent at 150° C, softens at 220-240° C, and melts at 250-260° C, according to Coats website.
With employee strength of more than 20,000 across six continents, Coats Group earned $1.7 billion in revenues in 2014.
