Meadwestvaco Targets The Preservative-Free Packaging Market by Expanding Pharma Center

Global packaging company MeadWestvaco (MWV) has invested $7.5m to expand its pharmaceutical manufacturing Centre of Excellence in Hemer, Germany, targeting the preservative-free packaging market.

According to MWV, the center is the core for the company's global pharmaceutical dispensing systems manufacturing network.

The latest project includes expansion of clean room molding and assembly capacity as well as the introduction of a new logistics system to control the finished goods and components flow.

MWV Medical Plastics Division vice president & general manager Sven-Uwe Hhm said, "This investment underlines MWV's position as an innovation leader in healthcare dispensing systems and our commitment to manufacturing high quality products in the appropriate regulatory environment."

Expected to begin in early 2013, the facility expansion will finish by the end 2013.

The existing Centre of Excellence comprises clean rooms for precision injection-molding and component assembly, R&D facilities with fluid dispensing, fluid atomization, design optimization and broad material knowledge, and project management support.
