Warren Buffett Is Ready to Go All in on Solar and Wind

Warren Buffett is ready to go all in on solar and wind regardless of what happens with federal subsidies.

The investor guru and chairman of Berkshire Hathaway said the company will spend $15 billion on renewable energy in the United States, Bloomberg reports.

That doubles what the Omaha, Neb.-based company has already spent on that sector of the energy industry, Bloomberg reported.

"There's another $15 billion ready to go, as far as I'm concerned," Buffett said as he spoke at the Edison Electric Institute's annual convention in Las Vegas on Monday.

While Buffett didn't elaborate on where this new investment would occur, it's a safe bet that Texas, already the wind capital of the country, will be a major recipient. Not everyone agrees that solar and wind should receive federal subsidies and Donna Nelson, who chairs the Texas Public Utility Commission, recently said too much wind puts the grid at risk.

Berkshire Hathaway owns Fort Worth-based Burlington Northern Santa Fe. The railroad's logistics subsidiary partnered with Dallas-based Tri Global Energy to build a 40-acre hub where trains and trucks can deliver giant turbines and towers just north of Lubbock. Tri Global Energy is planning the largest community wind farms in the country.
