According to report made by Posco Research Institute (Posri), Korea’s domestic demand for steel products might be at 54.08 million tons this year, rising slightly by 0.1% from a year ago.
Posri pointed out that the demand from the country’s shipbuilding industry might steadily decline this year. Also, market sentiment for the manufacturing and construction sectors might stay cold this year.
It’s forecasted that the new building made by Korean shipbuilders would be at around 28 million compensated gross tons in 2013, decreasing by 10% year on year.
Meanwhile, the total values of new orders received by the Korean construction companies in January were at KRW4 trillion, slumping by 45% year on year, according statistics released by the Construction Association of Korea.
Posri added that Korea’s production of steel flat products would rise by 1.7% year on year to reach 43.41 million tons.
