Masimo, a provider of noninvasive monitoring technologies, announced that the East Tennessee Children's Hospital has installed its Patient SafetyNet system.
The system noninvasively, continuously measures and tracks the underlying physiological conditions to detect changes or abnormalities that signal declining health status in real-time.
It also automatically sends wireless alerts directly to clinicians, prompting a potentially lifesaving response to the patient's bedside, when any changes occur in the measured values.
In addition, the system has been clinically shown to reduce preventable and costly rescue events and transfers to intensive care units, claims the company.
East Tennessee Children's Hospital nurse manager Debi Dobbs said with the deployment, the center is providing an extra layer of safety for its postoperative patients for inpatient surgery.
"It's especially beneficial for those patients who suffer from respiratory depression, and we are exploring placing the Patient SafetyNet system in additional units," Dobbs added.
Masimo said hospital patients will also benefit from its rainbow technology that allows clinicians to noninvasively measure multiple blood constituents, respiration rate, and other physiological parameters.
Parameters that are also being used at East Tennessee Children's include total hemoglobin (SpHb) in operating rooms, Measure-Through Motion and Low Perfusion performance of Masimo SET oxyhemoglobin (SpO2), perfusion index (PI), and pulse rate (PR).
