Halewood Acquires Stake in City of London Distillery

Halewood Wines & Spirits has acquired a stake in the City of London Distillery for an undisclosed amount.

The deal allows the City of London Distillery to reap the benefits of Halewood’s marketing and promotional activities.

The move will ease further penetration into the market for its products such as City of London Dry, Old Tom and Sloe Gins, Christopher Wren Gin and Square Mile Gin.

The City of London’s gin line-up would complement Halewood’s handcrafted gin portfolio including Whitley Neill Gin, Liverpool Gin and the recently launched Marylebone Gin.

The City of London Distillery is considered to be the only working distillery in the city and after the acquisition, it will continue to work independently.

The company’s managing director and master distiller Jonathan Clark will continue with his role in the company. Right now, City of London is focused on expanding its craft gin portfolio.

In an interview with The Business Desk, Jonathan Clark said: “Being the only gin distillery in the Square Mile has given us a loyal customer-base since we opened in 2012.

“The Halewood investment now gives us the opportunity, not only to continue experimenting and perfecting our existing gin portfolio here in the City, but also to expand our reach throughout the rest of the UK and internationally.”

Halewood Wines & Spirits group CEO Stewart Hainsworth said: “Jonathan is an incredibly high calibre distiller with a distinctive offering in a busy market.

“With our focus on craft, Jonathan’s unique proposition and passion for traditional high grade distilling caught our eye and we’re looking forward to supporting him in expanding his premium portfolio.”

Recently, Halewood secured £50m in bank loan to support is acquisition strategy.
