Zhafir Plastics Machinery Ltd., a subsidiary of Chinese press maker Haitian International Holdings, will open its first regional office worldwide in India, reflecting what the company said is the importance it places on the Indian market. The Mumbai sales and service center will start operating this spring with 18 people, and will be the company’s first regional office outside of its Ebermannsdorf, Germany, headquarters and its factory in Ningbo, China. Zhafir announced the office at Plastindia, held Feb. 1-6 in New Delhi. Zhafir, which focuses on all-electric machines, also said it expanded its factory in Ningbo from 12, 000 square meters to 18, 000 square meters at the end of 2011, to handle increased demand and to reduce lead times. In India, the company is “expecting an increasing demand for this [all-electric] technology to contribute to the rapid development of the plastics industry in India, ” said Helmar Franz, Zhafir’s CEO and a member of the board of Haitian. “This expected development is based on rising living standards and consumption and on the need of resource saving manufacturing in India, ” Franz said in a statement the company distributed at Plastindia. Zhafir said it increased its turnover in the first half 2011 by 80 percent compared to first half 2010, and has sold 2, 000 of its Venus series all-electrics since they entered the market in 2008. The Mumbai office will also act as a bridge in India for Haitian’s Vietnam factory, which opened last year, Zhafir said. Source: plasticsnews.com
