Setra intends to close down its Horndal pine sawmill in Avesta. The company announced on 14 May 2012 that associated negotiations with employee representatives were to begin on the basis of the Swedish Co-determination Act (MBL). Closure of the plant, in which roughly 32, 000 m³ of pine lumber were produced in 2011, will affect 35 employees. The company reports that the reasons for the planned closure are the unsatisfactory profit situation and a declining market for the products produced at the site until now. Horndal processes mainly high-quality pine roundwood to block goods and raw products for window-scantling production. Buyers are primarily smaller furniture and window-manufacturing companies in Europe. Source: euwid-wood-products
