US Raw Steel Production Fell Another 2.4 Percent in The Week Ending March 16

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell another 2.4 percent in the week ending March 16, following a 1.6 percent drop a week ago.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,785,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 2.4 percent decrease from the 1,828,000 nt produced in the previous week and a 9.9 percent decrease from the 1,982,000 nt produced in the same week a year ago.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 74.5 percent in the week ending March 16, compared to 76.3 percent in the previous week and 79.6 percent in the same week last year.
