Microsoft Launched Long Awaited Windows 8 Surface Pro Tablet Computer in Australia

Microsoft Releases Its Surface Pro Windows 8 Tablet in Australia

MICROSOFT today has launched its long awaited Windows 8 Surface Pro tablet computer in Australia.

It will be available from today in two configurations: a 64GB standalone version for $999 and a 128GB standalone version priced at $1,099.

Australia is late in getting the Surface Pro. It has been available in the US and other markets since the beginning of the year.

Because it has an Intel processor, the Surface Pro can run regular Microsoft Windows programs - unlike the Surface RT tablet released last year that uses ARM processor architecture.

The Pro has a dual core, 1.7 Gigahertz hz Core i5 processor latched to 4 Gigabytes of system memory. Storage is through 64GB or 128GB of SSD memory.

It sports an attractive 10.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, or 208 pixels an inch.

The Pro is available locally from today via the Microsoft Store and from Australian retailers Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi. Users wanting a hard keyboard for the Pro can buy the Type Cover at $149.99 and Touch Cover for $139.99.

The Australian has reviewed Microsoft's Surface Pro.
