Patent enables virtual images to be super-imposed over real-world view
Google has acquired patents for wearable technology from Apple's primary assembler Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn), for anticipated use in its interactive 'Google Glass' devices.
The acquired patent portfolio includes patents for head-mounted display technology that enables virtual images to be super-imposed over real-world view.
According to Hon Hai, the Google-acquired technology is usually deployed in applications for aviation, engineering design; in gaming and video devices; in addition to tools used for training and simulation.
Google is currently working on a new wearable device dubbed as 'Google Glass', which is an Android powered, internet-connected device similar to a smartphone that operates on voice commands.
Featuring Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 5MP camera and a high resolution display, the new gadget offers storage capacity of 12GB, while can also be synced with Google cloud storage and connected to any of the Bluetooth-enabled device.
The device is being tested by creative individuals and developers, which would allow them to explore the ways of using the new gadget.
Planned to be assembled at Foxconn's Santa Clara facility in California, US, the new gadget would be launched for the mass market by 2014.
