The Ministry of Agriculture of Paraguay (MAG) has announced plans to review the Government’s plan for cotton in the country, and add new dynamics to implement the cotton campaign successfully.
According to a statement issued by MAG, several technicians and representatives from the agricultural sector of the country had attended the recently held meeting of the ‘Challenges of South: Cooperation in Family Cotton Farming’ program in the Peruvian capital city of Lima, wherein the objectives, strategies and mechanisms for implementing the cooperation projects were discussed.
After attending the meeting, Paraguayan agricultural sector representatives presented a review plan for the cotton sector of the country to Minister of Agriculture Jorge Gattini.
The objective of the reviewed cotton plan is to strengthen the agricultural sector institutions in the country to support the cotton farmers’ family and improve their production techniques, with the establishment of technical manual production systems.
Under the review plan presented to the Agricultural Minister, the Ministry is to undertake the task of implementing measures for improving productivity and income of these families with the objective of bettering their living conditions.
The plan seeks to contribute towards strengthening of cotton production in the country, through training of cotton producers and extend technology transfer framed under the system of the south cooperation plan to the farmers.
According to MAG, other institutions involved in the implementation of the reviewed cotton plan are the Paraguayan Institute of Agricultural Technology (IPTA) and the National Plant Protection Service (SENAVE).
The ‘Challenges of South: Cooperation in Family Cotton Farming’ program is an initiative for Latin American and Caribbean nations taken up by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) with strong support from the Brazilian Government through the Brazilian Agency of Cotton (IBA) and the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (FAO RLC), and Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC).
