Attention Walmart shoppers (or is that drivers?). The retail giant has just launched a fuel-price rollback that knocks off as much as 15 cents per gallon on purchases at more than 1,000 Murphy USA and Walmart gas stations in 21 states. The promotion runs through July 7.
Unlike most retailer fuel discounts, Walmart's program isn't tied to the purchase of groceries and other goods. At supermarkets such as Kroger, Price Chopper, Safeway, and Savemart, for example, you usually get a 10-cents-per-gallon discount for every $100 you spend in store.

To take advantage of the Walmart discount you must pay with a Walmart-branded card. You'll save 10 cents per gallon when paying with a gift card, and 15 cents with a Walmart MoneyCard (a reloadable Prepaid MasterCard or Visa card) or Walmart charge card.
As summer approaches, look for other merchants to launch similar programs of their own. Last year, for instance, Midwest retailer Meijer offered a 10-cent-per-gallon discount on fuel at all 179 of its gas stations from June through Labor Day.
