Nigeria Considers on Making It Compulsory to Produce School Uniforms From Domestic Fabrics

The Government of Nigeria is considering on making it compulsory to produce school uniforms from domestic fabrics, according to the Minister of Trade and Investment Olusegun Aganga.
 
Speaking at a stakeholders’ workshop on National Policy on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and launch of the National Enterprise Development Programme, in Ogun state, Mr. Aganga said as part of its efforts to revive the MSMEs, the Federal Government may draft a policy to make it compulsory to produce school uniforms from local fabrics.
 
MSMEs can create more employment opportunities for Nigerians, Mr. Aganga said and added that he would put the proposal of production of school uniforms from ‘Made-in-Nigeria’ fabrics before the Federal Executive Council, Nigerian newspaper Vanguard reported.
 
The Minister said Government spending must be directed towards aiding development and job creation in the country and added that he would recommend that certain percent of Government expenses be marked specifically for the MSMEs sub-sector.
 
He said investment in MSMEs is crucial to address Nigeria’s unemployment problems and informed that his Ministry plans to create five million new jobs in the country’s MSMEs sector by 2015.
 
Ogun Governor Ibikunle Amosun said expansion of MSMEs is one of the quickest ways of developing the economy.
