Three-store retailer Del Sol Furniture here will donate 5% of its sales this Saturday to the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center under a promotion tied to Autism Awareness Month.
Alex Macias, vice president of the family-run business, said the event is a first for the retailer. He said his best friend's brother has autism, so "this hits home."
"SARRC is a great nonprofit and our donation is going to families who can't afford the high level of care that people with autism need," he said.
Macias added that Del Sol believes it can help the Phoenix-based SARRC get the world out to the Hispanic community about autism and the importance of diagnosing children early.
The retailer is promoting the event through its regular advertising channels, including television, radio and newspaper. Representatives with SARRC will be on hand to answer questions at Del Sol's flagship store on West Indian School Road in Phoenix, and the retailer will be handing out information at its other locations.
Macias said he plans to make it an annual event.
