There's So Much New Web-Based Stuff

CEO of business analytics and intelligence firm Jim Goodnight is glad his company does not have to C"strange world of the internet", and is mystified by Google's recent decision to spend $1bn for crowd-sourced GPS app Waze.

Goodnight told Computing: "There's so much new web-based stuff. What is Waze? Google bought it, I've never heard of it, I don't know what it does, but [Google] paid a billion dollars.

"This whole internet world is a strange world and I'm glad we don't have to deal with it."

Goodnight drew a firm line between the "strange" internet world and data analytics and intelligence, saying: "We're analytics. This is what we do, we know it very well, and that's what we concentrate on and we're the best in the world at."

Speaking to Computing at SAS' Premier Business Leadership Series conference in Amsterdam recently, Goodnight extolled the virtues of the company's new visual analytics tool.

"This movement towards in-memory data processing and in-memory analysis, that's something more and more businesses are beginning to understand, that if we can read the data in the memory and keep it there, that's going to take care of the I/O bottlenecks we have now," he said.
