The Coveris Rigid Division has recently invested in the latest 3D print technology for their UK Centre for Development & Innovation (CDI), based in County Durham, helping to further strengthen and streamline the design and development process from concept to final product.
The investment involves the purchase of a 3D printing system, which can be used to print precise rapid prototypes of rigid packaging design proposals. In addition to producing single mock-ups of design concepts, the equipment is able to print accurate prototype moulds, from which multiple thermoformed samples can be produced using product specific raw materials like rPET or PP, providing customers with packs which can be tested on filling lines and presented to retailers.
Carl Petrie, Product Design Manager at Coveris, comments: “The ability to quickly create accurate 3D prints of creative design concepts allows pack dimensions, ergonomics and visual aesthetics to be evaluated and adjusted early on in a project.
This greatly helps speed up the next stages of the development process, through to getting a product successfully launched onto the supermarket shelves.” This latest investment helps strengthen the Coveris CDI portfolio, offering a one-stop point for creative idea generation, photorealistic rendering, rapid prototyping, sample development and production tooling.
