In spite of further declines in turnover and the considerably lower EBITDA seen in the first half of 2013, the Floor & Wall Coverings division of the Portuguese cork group Corticeira Amorim showed an improvement in the first nine months of the year of 5,9% to €10.8m. In contrast, turnover decreased by €4.8m, or 4.9%, to €93.4m. That fall in revenues was primarily attributable to the continued decline in business with trading goods, especially with veneer flooring. Over the whole nine months, trading turnover was down year on year by €4.4m, or 25%, though turnover generated with cork flooring decreased by only 1%. According to Amorim's quarterly report published on 30 October, cork-flooring business showed a positive trend, particularly in North America and in Scandinavia, though North American revenues were negatively affected by unfavourable currency-exchange developments. Delayed order receipts from Eastern Europe and reduction of stock on the Chinese market also exerted a negative influence. In contrast, turnover with bought-in LVT coverings marketed under the name VinylComfort showed growth.
