Global Pig Iron Production Increased by 3.62% in June

In June this year, global pig iron production amounted to 96.06 million metric tons, decreasing by 4.1 percent compared to May and up 3.62 percent on year-on-year basis, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

In June, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 73.88 million mt, up by 4.75 percent, with 58.34 million mt produced by China, up by 4.71 percent, 6.88 million mt produced by Japan, up by 0.9 percent, and 4.1 million mt produced by India, up by 14.8 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in June this year EU countries produced 7.82 million mt of pig iron, while the CIS accounted for 6.68 million mt of pig iron output, with year-on-year declines of 0.35 percent and 1.63 percent respectively.

In the meantime, in the first six months of this year world pig iron production amounted to 583.67 million metric tons, rising by 4.09 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2012.
