New Jersey-based S&M International is recalling Yang Sheng cooked salted duck eggs as they may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacteria that causes botulism.
The product was distributed between August and October 2012 to outlets in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Michigan, reported Foodsafetynews.com.
It is vacuum-packed in plastic with six eggs per 12.69 oz. package and beares the UPC 6949682803568, while the lot code YS12-02C is printed on the product's boxes.
The New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets found that the product was not processed in a favourable manner that stops the growth of the bacteria.
Customers who have bought the product have been advised to either discard it or return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.
Symptoms of botulism poisoning include double vision, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, and muscle weakness.
