Fashion Design Competition Wwas Organized

Cotton Council International (CCI), in association with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), presents the fifth season of its pan-India fashion design competition, “Let’s Design,” airing on zoom TV in February 2013.

Conceptualized by CCI to educate and inspire young designers to work with cotton, “Let’s Design” has grown to become India’s premier design competition. This competition aims to nurture young talent while igniting a passion for working with cotton fabric.

“With Let’s Design we hope to elicit the latent talent of aspiring designers and through their creativity highlight the fashion potential of cotton,” said Ms. Agnieszka Fijol, CCI’s program head of India. “We are very proud how ‘Let’s Design’ has grown over the past five years and are excited to embark on yet another season. I look forward to seeing what the next generation of Indian designers can bring to a classic fabric.”

The reality show takes contestants through a series of challenges that test their creative and technical design skills, as well as “real world” product marketing sensibilities. Each task centers on a challenge that the contestants must execute in a prescribed time with the provided resources.

With each round, the challenges become more difficult and the resources more restrictive. A panel of fashion industry experts will judge the designs, eliminating one or more designers each round.

This season’s theme is the world’s five fashion capitals: New York, London, Paris, Milan and Tokyo. Shortlisted contestants have been asked to interpret their favorite fashion capital in a single garment. In additional to invaluable experience and national exposure, the winner walks away with one million rupees as prize money, among other perks.

“Let’s Design 5”counts FDCI as a fashion partner, Supima as a fabric partner, zoom as broadcast partner, Verve as a magazine partner and www.fashionfad.in as an online partner.

“Yet another initiative by FDCI to find new talent in fashion design, we are proud to associate with Cotton Council International to promote Indian talent at an international platform while endorsing the use of the versatile fabric: cotton,” said Mr. Sunil Sethi, president of FDCI.
