UK-based Jiffy Packaging is investing in new extrusion technology to produce polyethylene foam of varied thicknesses.
Acquired by Airpack in 2014, the firm aims to make mass market penetration with the new expansion.
The firm will make a multi-million pound investment to harness the technology at its headquarters in Winsford, Cheshire.
The extrusion line will make the foam in a variety of thicknesses, including thin section foam for interleaving and surface protection and thicker foams for cushioning and wrapping. More thickness will also be provided for impact protection and insulation.
The new technology is capable of extruding with a width of 2.5m, incorporating the potential for in-line lamination, winding and slitting.
Jiffy Packaging managing director Max Weller said: "We are delighted to reveal that phase one of our new investment programme is in place, allowing us to bring new products to market.
"We have already been clear about our ambitions to grow and this investment will allow us to accelerate that growth. Jiffy has new owners, new investment and will be entering new markets. And don't forget that there is more to come when we announce the second phase of this investment."
