Glass and plastic packaging supplier Plasdene Glass-Pak has acquired West Australia-based Silverlock Packaging, expanding its size by more than 50%.
The move, which will expand the firm's geographic coverage, product offering and sales team, is likely to give it a solid footing in the South Australian and Western Australian markets.
Plasdene Glass-Pak has seven branches across Australia.
The acquisition comes four years after Plasdene Glass-Pak, owned by the Pearson family, bought New South Wales-based wine bottle distribution business J.McCarthy.
Silverlock will be brought under Pearson Group Packaging (PG-P).
Merger of the two family-owned businesses is expected to bring synergies in designing complementary product type portfolios.
The firms have been separately distributing products of glass manufacturer O-I and plastic packaging PACT Group.
Plasdene Glass-Pak managing director Ken Pearson said: "Whilst we've had a distribution centre in Perth for more than ten years (and Adelaide even longer), it has certainly been challenging to penetrate and grow the business in these regions to the proportions expected, such is the strength of the well-established market presence of Silverlock and others.
"We truly are a one-stop-shop for packaging, with our current range exceeding more than 6,000 line items, and over 250 global supply partners. With similar business models, many of the same or complementary manufacturers, clients and product range, as well as a like-minded approach to personal service, this strategic purchase makes sense."
Silverlock Packaging was founded in 1976, while Plasdene Glass-Pak was floated by its current managing director in 1987.
