Telford & Wrekin Council's ongoing project to better the lighting and reduce street illuminations energy consumption around the borough is set to continue, with the villages of Burford, Bridgwood and Bembridge in Brookside next in line to benefit.
Throughout the improvements, which are set to start today (March 25th), existing columns and lanterns will be upgraded, Shropshire Live reports.
It is hoped that these alterations will help to provide a better quality of light at a lower cost and will begin to introduce greater consistency in the standard and quality of outdoor lighting across Brookside.
This scheme is part of a major regeneration that is taking place in Brookside. In addition to the regeneration, the works in the villages will complete the column replacement programme for the area.
In total, £1.3 million is being spent on energy-saving equipment over the next four years and as part of the project all the lighting on Brookside Avenue has also recently been upgraded.
Brookside has been identified as a pilot ward for regeneration by the Telford & Wrekin Council and if it is successful, then greater energy-saving measures may be seen across the borough. Currently, there is set to be £6 billion spent on the estate.
Cabinet member for the neighbourhood services and co-operative council Shaun Davies commented: "It's important that we work hard as a borough to reduce our energy consumption and being able to install better lighting that will save money and be better for our environment is a really positive step.
"I'm really pleased that this work is contemplating all the regeneration that is currently going on in Brookside and it is showing an even greater investment in the local area."
Many councils up and down the country are looking towards upgrading their lighting to LED illuminations as they use much less energy and last for a longer time than traditional incandescents.
