Research In Motion(RIM)has announced Rob Orr will take over as managing director for its UK and Ireland operations.
The current managing director,Stephen Bates,is leaving the post to become the company's first regional managing director for Europe.Bates's new role has been created to ensure the company is"optimally structured"in Europe for selling its current products,as well as prepared for the launch of the Blackberry 10 operating system and devices early next year.
Orr will take on the role from 1 September 2012.He has been at the company for six years and currently holds the role of European vice-president of product management.
"With this new appointment,he now takes on the fresh challenge of maintaining and building on the strong business momentum in the UK and Ireland markets,"read a statement from the firm.
There is a rough road ahead for all the executives at RIM after the company posted dramatic losses at the end of June.Revenues fell by 38%from the previous quarter down to$2.8bn,and the company recorded its first net loss since 2003.
"The next several quarters will be very challenging due to the increasingly competitive environment,and we expect[another]operating loss in the second quarter of fiscal 2013,"said the company's chief financial officer,Brian Bidulka,at the time.
