Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that the Cherepovets Steel Mill, part of its Russian Steel division, has commissioned its new coke oven battery No. 7 following a reconstruction project which has received investment of about RUB 4.5 billion ($142.13 million).
The reconstruction project was part of a wider investment program aimed at the developing company's assets to meet its coke production targets.
According to Severstal's statement, the new unit will produce 700,000 mt of coke per year, which is 100,000 mt more than the old battery could. With the new battery on stream, Cherepovets Steel Mill will be able toMetallurgy increase its in-house coke production by 15 percent a year.
