Energy saving lighting from New Zealand, in the pegasus project in Christchurch

Yet another example of a customer being satisfied with its energy-efficient lighting comes from New Zealand, where Pegasus Engineering in Christchurch enlisted the help of Philips to design and install lighting in an expansion of its warehouse and loading bay.

The firm was so delighted with the results that it has decided to embark on a retrofit project for its offices, according to Scoop.co.nz.

Pegasus needed to build new premises due to an expansion of its workforce. Tony Robinson from Arnold Jensen Electrical, who worked with Philips on the project, said that the firm wanted a more modernised feel to the new site, while also keeping maintenance costs down.

One specific aspect to the brief was that visibility needed to be notably high due to the nature of the work carried out by Pegasus in order to comply with health and safety regulations. LEDs delivered this as precision-controlled optics enabled engineers to direct the lighting to exactly where staff needed it.

Owner of the engineering company Gavin Lawry said that the lighting companies had made the project completely painless for him and his employees, announcing: "We are so pleased with the work that Philips has done in the warehouse, we have engaged them to upgrade our office lighting as well.”

Staff at the company also remarked on the superior quality of light levels and reduced glare while they were going about their business - just two of the many key selling points of LED lights.

This story serves as one example of how a successful lighting project can prove to be an unprecedented delight, be it for your home or business.

A case in point would be enterprises where quality of light is of paramount importance - for example, intricate creative and artistic industries, which may benefit from installing newer lighting technologies in the form of ceiling spotlights or other ceiling light fittings.

For Pegasus, lighting costs will be cut by 50 per cent thanks to the project, while also affording them access to Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority subsidies designed to encourage companies to adopt more energy-efficient usage strategies.

Similar governmental subsidies in the UK are beginning to filter through the red tape as Downing Street pushes initiatives to make the country more green. These include the obligatory Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme that intends to improve energy efficiency and cut carbon emissions by large public and private sector organisations.
