US-based Ecology Coatings, a producer of solvent-free coatings and Whitlam Label will team up to develop a sustainable labels program that aims to provide a new, sustainable labels solution to replace conventional plastic laminate films currently used for printed labels.
Whitlam Label chief operating officer Alex Elezaj said Ecology's coatings will allow the company to use an environment-friendly label substrate, replacing plastic laminates.
The UV-curable EcoQuik coatings have a distinct performance advantage over competitive overprint coatings and finishes in the print and packaging market and provide protection from thermal shock and outstanding resistance to household chemicals and paint solvents.
Ecology Coatings CEO Bob Crockett said petroleum-based plastic laminate films are commonly used in the prime label and packaging markets.
The coatings cure rapidly, provide a barrier to air, water, grease and are durable, making them a cost effective solution for food packaging and wrappings.
