Contract packaging firm Aphena Pharma Solutions has secured funds from the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED), the Talbot County Council (TCC) and the Town of Easton to expand its facility in Easton, Maryland.
The state provided a fund of $134,000 to the pharmaceutical packaging and manufacturing company, on a condition that it retains at least 100 employees at its Easton facility for a period of five years.
In addition to funds from the state, the company would also receive $13,400 matching grant from the town, which along with TCC has agreed not to collect personal property tax from certain manufacturers.
DBED secretary Dominick Murray said by working with their partners in Talbot County and the Town of Easton as well as the leadership of Aphena Pharma Solutions, they are preserving highly skilled jobs and ensuring that this company will continue to grow and invest in Maryland.
"I applaud the County and Town for working with Aphena to develop a creative solution that not only spurs economic development, but helps grow manufacturing in Maryland," Murray added.
The company, which commenced the expansion in 2013 with an investment of $3m, faced problems with its water well.
Aphena Pharma liquids and manufacturing vice president George Galgano said the company is grateful for the efforts of the town, county and state in assisting it with obtaining potable water.
"Good quality water is an essential component in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment and without it our business could not continue to operate in its current location. We look forward to our continued success and growth in Easton," Galgano added.
The company provides contract packaging, repackaging and manufacturing solutions for the markets including pharmaceutical, OTC, dietary supplements, animal health, consumer health and medical device.
