The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for LED lighting for plant factories is estimated at 27% from 2011-2018, according to Taiwan's Photonic Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA). In 2013, this market segment is expected to reach US$1.2 billion, said PIDA.
An exhibition, Plant Factory Taiwan 2013, will be held from June 18-20 to showcase products that combine the photonic and agricultural technologies such as LED growth lighting, testing equipment, and environment control systems.
Industry sources noted that LED technology can be adopted by the agricultural sector. Taiwan has strength in both LED and agricultural technologies and the cooperation of the two sectors can help to create more plant factories, the sources added.
