Ardagh Develops New Citrus Jar for UK's Jam Company Duerr's

Glass packaging company Ardagh has designed new citrus jar for the UK's jam and marmalade company Duerr's.

By using 3D printing, prototyping and CAD sculptured embossing, Ardagh has developed the new bottle with right size and scale.

According to the company, the project passed through multiple iterative development stages for developing clear models (Perspex).

Sculptured embossing enabled the company to produce peel effect on the surface.

The advanced design software uses a haptic device to provide designer with hands-on control to manually sculpt the intricate and real-life effects on the surface of the container.

Ardagh also developed a full body shrink label for the jar to replace the conventional paper labels, which were earlier used for Duerr’s products.

Last month, Duerr's launched Fine Cut Sunny Seville and the Thick Cut Classic Seville, which features easy-open Orbit caps and easy peel label for post-use collector appeal.

Duerr’s is providing Fine Cut Sunny Seville and Thick Cut Classic in Tesco stores at a price of £1.99, while citrus conserves will be provided at price of RRP: £2.29 from 2017.

Duerr's managing director Mark Duerr said: “The shape and format of preserve jars hasn’t changed for a long time – consumer research told us that we needed to do something to shake up the category and appeal to a younger consumer.”

The jam and marmalade company’s Richard Duerr said: “The range is packed full of the freshest, juiciest fruit, with natural, simple ingredients.

“The new packaging will totally transform the fixture, with shoppers already saying they can’t wait to use the jars as anything from candle holders to cocktail glasses once the contents have all been enjoyed!”
