The Dow Chemical Company Shows Its Broad Portfolio of Innovative Solutions

The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) showcases its broad portfolio of innovative solutions at the largest global gathering of the plastics and rubber industry at K 2013 in Düsseldolf today.

Under the Dow Performance Plastics group, Packaging and Specialty Plastics introduces the metallocene linear low density polyethylene XUS59900.99, a polymer developed based on Dow's proprietary INSITETM technology. It is currently only available in Asia Pacific.

In line with the theme "Solutionism at K" to highlight the new levels of innovation, diverse suite of solutions and technologically advances at Dow, the latest extrusion coating resin XUS59900.99 was recently developed to provide excellent adhesion and sealing through a myriad of conditions.

Designed to be used pure, it provides excellent performance both as a sealant and/or tie layer in many types of extrusion coating applications. Ideal for food & specialty packaging such as packages for condiments, laminate tubes and aseptic packaging for juice and milk, the XUS59900.99 also broadens the applications available, moving from lamination films to extrusion coating structures to include soup mixers, detergent and cleaning products.

With excellent seal performance and downgauging, the new resin provides superior physical and mechanical performance to produce tougher and stronger packages to downgauge coating and substrate thickness. The enhanced performance of the XUS59900.99 polymer benefits the flexible packaging converters by maintaining the packaged product quality while reducing materials and production costs.

The XUS59900.99 polymer can be used in a wide variety of extrusion coating applications with its outstanding range of performance benefits which include:

-Optimal / reduced neck-in and good processability

-Excellent taste and odor performance - resulting in lower off-taste in the contents packaged

-Excellent hot tack and heat seal - with increased seal strength, leaker rates will decline

-Puncture and tear - provides the package with desirable functionality hence achieving packaging integrity with reduced leakage

"The evolving packaging industry trends and marketplace needs mean that it is crucial that the right polymer is selected to constantly enhance packaging performance. As a company dedicated to innovations and high performing plastics solutions, the development of the XUS59900.99 resin is designed to meet strict packaging requirements and deliver consistency, reliability and performance across various manufacturing locations," said Jayne Wong, Marketing Director for Food & Specialty Packaging, Packaging and Specialty Plastics for Asia Pacific.
