Gap Inc. announced that Sonia Syngal has been promoted to lead the company’s Global Supply Chain division, effective immediately. She succeeds Colin Funnell who will retire from the company, following a nine-year Gap Inc. career spanning global logistics, production and supply chain.
As executive vice president of Global Supply Chain, Syngal will join the company’s executive management team and report directly to Gap Inc. chairman and chief executive officer Glenn Murphy.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Sonia lead our Global Supply Chain organization,” said Glenn Murphy, chairman and chief executive officer of Gap Inc. “Sonia brings a strong blend of brand and supply chain strategy, along with hands-on management experience across all aspects of sourcing, logistics and production.”
Since joining the company in 2004, Syngal has served in key leadership roles including vice president of Corporate Sourcing and then Global Production & Supply Chain, both working directly with Funnell.
During this time, she was instrumental in delivering production and sourcing strategies for Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy. Most recently, she served as head of Old Navy’s International division where she led the successful expansion of the brand in Japan and set the strategies for Old Navy’s global growth.
Prior to joining Gap Inc., Syngal spent nearly 10 years at Sun Microsystems where she led manufacturing operations, logistics and supply chain management during a time of rapid growth.
Funnell remains with the company through March 2014.
“Colin has provided tremendous leadership and vision for our company, successfully transforming Gap Inc.’s supply chain to a global category management model, and instilling the discipline of speed and responsiveness required to fuel our company’s global growth,” added Murphy. “We’re grateful for his commitment and many contributions to the company.”
