Bligh Resources has intercepted up to 33% manganese oxide at its Grenfell project in New South Wales. The drilling program tested two historical mining areas, the Bellbird Workings and the Hoskins Mine, where six and 13 reverse circulation holes were drilled respectively.
The manganese mineralisation intercepted within the historical underground workings at the Hoskins Mine was most significant returning intercepts of 2 metres at 18.2% MnO from 33 metres including 1 metre at 33%; 4 metres at 16.35% from 35 metres; and 2 metres at 13.91% MnO from 74 metres including 1 metre at 23.5% MnO.
The old workings were tested over a strike length of 1.6 kilometres down to a depth of 196 metres. In total, 558 composite samples were collected for multi element assays.
Grenfell has a rich mining history with historical gold and manganese production. The Hoskins Maganese Mine was the largest producer in NSW between 1915 and 1941 producing 25,700 tonnes of manganese.
