According to the statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), in February this year US scrap exports amounted to 1.87 million metric tons, up marginally by 0.24 percent year on year and up 73.8 percent over the previous month. In the first two months of the year, the US exported 3.4 million mt of steel scrap, rising 4.1 percent compared to the first two months of 2012.
In February this year, US scrap exports to Turkey amounted to 594,584 metric tons, decreasing one percent year on year and up 23 percent month on month. US scrap exports to Taiwan in the month in question increased by 19.75 percent year on year and were up 1.6 percent compared to January, amounting to 267,981 metric tons.
Meanwhile, in the given month, US scrap exports to China climbed up by 81 percent month on month and by 3.2 percent year on year, totaling 237,394 metric tons, while US scrap exports to South Korea in February amounted to 229,259 metric tons, rising 28.1 percent month on month and down 25.7 percent compared to February 2012.
