Colour Sound Experiment (CSE) supplied a ground support system, lighting equipment, production design and crew for the first ever Jazz FM Awards, which celebrated the work of jazz musicians, composers and contributors from across the globe.
Staged at One Marylebone in London, CSE was working in conjunction with Insight Lighting and production company Swim Productions.
CSE's Project Manager Fletch collaborated with creative director Brendan Clarke from Insight Lighting to create the lighting and production design for the much anticipated event, which saw several live performances from Cerys Matthews, Carleen Anderson, Ahmad Jamal among others.
The main room featured a stage and seated a capacity audience of 268 for dinner, and there was also a reception area that needed lighting.
The CSE team started with the installation of the four legged ground support system - measuring 7m by 5.5 deep with 5m of headroom - around the stage to provide positions for lighting, sound and video projection.
The stage set was designed by Swim Productions and constructed from a series of flats that were optimised to take projections and lighting.
The over-stage lighting fixtures were 10 GLP Impression 120 RZs, 22 x Chauvet Q-Wash 260 LED wash lights and six Source Four profiles for key lighting. Using primarily LED fixtures enabled the weight loading to be kept really expedient.
The main lighting requirements for onstage were making it a vibrant and flexible space that would look completely different for each live act and for the Awards presentations hosted by Ian Shaw.
To add mood and atmosphere to the room generally, wireless LED uplighters were strategically positioned around its perimeter up-lighting the walls, together with around 20 LED PARs used to highlight various features.
All lighting in the main room was controlled using an Avolites Pearl Expert operated by Kesker McClure, who was joined by CSE's Stuart Barr on the crew.
The reception area and annex were lit with more LED uplighters and LED battens, which provided a funky colour-changing environment for walk-in, pre-dinner drinks and mingling areas.
The front exterior of the building was lit by eight IP 65 rated Philips CK ColorBlast 10 architectural floods.
