Taiwan-based solar-grade polycrystalline silicon wafer makers have decreased quotes from US$1 before the US Department of Commerce imposed preliminary anti-subsidy tariffs on PV products imported from China in early June to US$0.96 currently, while China-based makers have cut from US$0.98 to US$0.92, according to industry sources.
China-based PV module makers exporting to the US market have stopped procuring Taiwan-produced solar cells made from China-produced solar-grade wafers to avoid the taxes, the sources said. As a result, China-based wafer makers have suffered stagnant sales and increasing inventory levels and therefore have lowered prices, the sources indicated.
