According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in January this year Turkey's calendar adjusted monthly industrial production index increased by 1.9 percent year on year, while the index was up 2.3 percent compared to the previous month. The production index in the country's manufacturing industry recorded a 2.7 percent month-on-month increase in January, while it rose 3.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
In January, the production index for the manufacture of basic metals in Turkey rose 1.7 percent year on year, and was down 2.5 percent from December last year. Meanwhile, the output index for the manufacture of fabricated metal products rose by two percent year on year, following the four percent year-on-year decrease recorded in December, and was up by 10.9 percent compared to the previous month.
The TUIK has switched to the base year 2010=100 for the manufacturing sector production index, noting that the base year 2005=100 was outdated due to developments in the economy, the occurrence of quality differences among products, and changes in the share of the manufacturing sector in overall Turkish industry.
