The long-rumoured Toyota 86 sedan is claimed to debut at tomorrow’s Dubai motor show, though uncertainty surrounds the car’s supposed unveiling.
According to what purports to be the official Facebook page of the Dubai motor show, Toyota UAE (United Arab Emirates) will “impress” showgoers with the “regional” unveiling of the “Sedan FT 86″.
The text was accompanied by a computer-generated image of a Toyota 86-based four-door (pictured top). This is where doubts about the reality of the situation start.
A regional unveiling suggests the car has been seen internationally, which is not the case with the 86 sedan. Further, according to the Duabi motor show’s official show preview, the “sedan” concept that UAE Toyota distributor Al-Futtaim Motors is bringing is the FT-86 Open concept car – an 86 convertible concept first unveiled at this year’s Geneva motor show.
The same preview document, however, also suggests that Toyota will display the all-new Yaris sedan and Avalon, “and another sedan yet to be launched”.
Speculated since 2010 and reportedly given the production green light last week, a Toyota 86 sedan is rumoured to ride on 100mm-stretched platform and incorporate technology from seen in the recent Yaris Hybrid-R concept.
Toyota Australia told CarAdvice it had no confirmation of any such unveiling, with sources from Japan telling the local division, plans to unveil such a concept in Dubai are “not true”.
The Dubai motor show opens its doors on November 5.
